Hearing from God
Does God speak to us through impressions,
feelings, nudgings, still small voices, dreams, visions, and inner promptings,
fleeces and subjective peaces? If the Bible teaches such a thing, then there
would be no more critical discipline to develop in the Christian life than the
discipline of hearing God's voice. But what does the Bible say about how God
speaks to us? Should we be listening for the voice of God?
Part 1: Do I Need a Hearing Aid?
An introduction to this series of articles explaining why this is an important
issue to examine in the light of Scripture.
Part 2: Is the Bible Enough?
An explanation of how the sufficiency of Scripture is sacrificed by looking to
other places for individual guidance from God. How does the Bible play into this
discussion and what does it say about itself?
Part 3: Shhh! I'm Trying to Hear God!
What does the Bible say about divine supernatural guidance. A look at the book
of Acts shows us what is missing from the early church.
Part 4: Impressions, Leadings, and Hearing Voices
So what about "impressions" and "being led by the Spirit" and the "still small
voice?" Does Scripture teach that God leads us by these things?
Part 5: Peaces, Fleeces, and Other Signs
So what about "having a peace" about a decision? Should I put out a fleece like
Gideon and expect God to guide me through it?
Part 6: Doors, Dreams, and Confirmations
Does God lead us through "open doors," "dreams," and "confirmations?"
Part7: Decisions, Decisions,
Decisions
If God speaks to us in Scripture and not through impressions, nudgings, fleeces,
peaces, open doors or confirmations, then how can I make important decisions? Is
there a method that is both taught and modeled in Scripture? Yes, there is!
Part 8: Bad Fruit from a
Bad Tree
The traditional model has some negative consequences. Here is a list of
13 ways in which the traditional model distorts our view of Scripture, God, and
the Christian life.
